The main attraction that draws tourists to Mount Bromo is the easy hike. You won’t have to endure hours of climbing to see a spectacular view of the volcano’s crater rim. Mount Bromo is one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes. It is located in the center of the plain known as the Sea of Sands, a protected nature reserve since 1919.
While Mount Bromo isn’t the highest peak in East Java or all of Indonesia, it is the most famous. Standing at 2,329 meters, it is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Besides scaling the highest peak in around 30 minutes to watch the sunrise, you can also enjoy a Jeep or horseback adventure of the Sea of Sands, a challenging yet thrilling ride that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Or head to the southern side of Mount Bromo and enjoy a picnic against the scenic sunset in Savannah.
