9 BEST PLACES to visit in Yogyakarta + THINGS TO DO

Posted on

Yogyakarta is a bustling city in Java, Indonesia famous for its cultural heritage and impressive traditional arts. It’s an amazing sight to behold, one of the most culturally rich regions of Asia, and a great experience overall.

Arguably, the city’s best attractions are the temples, such as Prambanan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with ballet performances in the evening, and Borobudur Temple, an 8th Centuries-old structure 113 feet tall. But it’s also nice to be in touch with the local Yogyakarta way of life by traveling to the lush rice fields or discovering the art of batik weaving. For a dream escape, head to Kalibiru National Park, highlighted by a small wooden platform from which a 360-degree view of a lush green forest and surrounding mountains can be seen.

Yogyakarta has a small airport, Adisucipto International Airport, which serves regular flights to Jakarta and Bali, both of which have international connections to major cities. If you choose to travel overland, it could be a strenuous 12-hour journey from Jakarta by bus or train.

Book earlier rather than later if you’ve already set your dates. Cheaper rooms and hotels with high reviews tend to be fully booked faster, especially during peak days such as weekends, holidays, and peak tourist seasons.
