AMPONTOONS.COM, JAKARTA – The fencing medals won at the SEA 2023 Games in Cambodia will be used by the executive committee of the Indonesian Fencing Association (PB Ikasi) to improve the performance of the athletes.
At the biennial Games between the countries of Southeast Asia,
The National Fencing team delivered a bronze medal in the Sable Men’s Team number which was strengthened by Ricky Dhisulima, Irfandi Nurkamil and Dita Afriadi.
PB Ikasi President Amir Yanto said that with the medals, hopefully this is a good start to improve fencing in the future.
“Therefore, we communicate to the management, let’s improve our results together. So between administrators, athletes, jury coaches, there is nothing better,” said Amir Yanto during the release ceremony for the Indonesian fencing team and the bonus giving at Teras Budhe, South Jakarta, Friday (19/5/2023) evening.
To increase the desired result, PB Ikaa national selection (seleknas) will be held. Subsequently the best fencers will be called to undergo long-term national retreats (pelatnas) to prepare for the various international championships.
“In the short term we will hold a national selection, which means that we will select those who are already there. We will bring the best athletes to national training in the long term to increase performance,” said Amir Yanto.
One of the events currently organized by Indonesian fencing is the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games, which will be held from September 8 to October 8, 2023.
Athletes who pass the national selection will later be sent to South Korea and China to undergo a training camp (TC). For this reason, PB Ikasi asked NOC Indonesia and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) to support the fencing training program.
Because even the national fencing federation wants to restore glory to this sport, which once used to host its athletes at the Olympics. Finally, Indonesian female fencing athlete Diah Permatasari appeared at the 2012 London Olympics.
“I hope NOC Indonesia and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, let’s together encourage the improvement of Indonesian fencing achievements so that outstanding athletes emerge who can achieve internationally, thank goodness the Olympics won the gold. I keep on think positively, I hope everyone will support improvement. As for the Asian Games, we are still preparing from now, we hope to be nominated,” explained Amir Yanto.
On the other hand, his party also has an agenda on how to popularize the sport of fencing so that it is increasingly recognized by many people. One of the pilot projects that will handle it is to provide training place which later can be called sports travel in Badung Regency, Bali.
“The Badung Regency government is ready to help, later we will make it a kind of sports trip. Hopefully, foreign athletes will come to Bali while on vacation and play fencing,” said Amir Yanto.
Additionally, PB Ikasi also has a coaching program for school children. Besides that, his party will also train elementary level teachers with the simplest possible tools.
“The plan is to hold a championship every three months. If it is successful there, it will be broadcast to other areas. Incidentally, there are foreign nationals from Spain who are ready to help develop fencing in Indonesia,” said Amir Yanto.
Indeed, there are Spaniards who collaborate with PB Ikasi to improve Indonesia’s fencing results in the future. They are Marc Vont and Eduardo Sepúlveda.
Marc Vont played for the Spanish fencing team at the World Championships. And he is also Technical Director of the Spanish Fencing Federation. Meanwhile, Eduardo Sepulveda was the first Spaniard to win the World Cup in épée, Puerto Rico 2001.
Meanwhile, the bonus given by Amir Yanto, a face value of Rp 100 million.
In addition, the man who also serves as Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence (Jamintel) in the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia has also given bonuses to trainers and officials worth IDR 100 million.
Amir Yanto previously promised this bonus to athletes before departure for SEA Games 2023. At that time, Amir promised personal bonus for athletes who won gold medals of IDR 500 million, IDR 300 million d’ silver and IDR 100 million bronze. The bonus that finally came out was IDR 100 million because the Indonesian fencer won the bronze medal.
