Tucked away within its own private bay with Mount Agung on its northern side, Amankila is undoubtedly the most beautiful property in Bali.
It is elegant, marble floor and walkways lined with frangipani. These are tranquil stilted suites with traditional vaulted ceilings and modern comforts inside. But above all it is intimate; a perfect sense of seclusion and personalized attention.
My stay started with a warm welcome from the Amankila staff, who gave me a quick tour of the resort and whisked me away to my suite. I spent the next few hours looking at the perfect ocean view in front of my room and reading the last few pages of my book.
At sunset, I enjoyed a nice swim in the resort’s three-level pool and relaxed in the cabana. I was already excited for my next day’s adventure, a private boat trip!
Aman’s outrigger boat is customized to be classy, yet extremely comfortable. They took me snorkelling to an unusual site near Blue Lagoon, and oh how wonderful. I have snorkeled at Blue Lagoon many times before and it has never impressed me. But in this secret location, I saw many healthy corals teeming with fish. I even spotted a large puffer fish and a small stingray!
The trip concluded with a nice picnic lunch on board the boat as the captain took me on a cruise all the way around the bay. I was happy as a child.
The rain cloud started coming after the boat trip, so I decided to take a long flower bath in my room. I returned to the same hut for sunset and decided to go for their canapé and cocktail, before enjoying dinner at the resort.
The next day, I got up early to enjoy their breakfast at the top of the hill. On top of their private hill, Amankila owns a beautiful private dance with views to die for. On one side you have a clear horizon towards Mount Agung. On the other, you have a beautiful ocean view facing slightly east where the sun rises. This breakfast experience was nothing short of magical!
Ernst Ludick, the general manager, hosted me for lunch before checkout. It was a wonderful finishing touch; the people of Amankila have been the kindest and most thoughtful to me.
I look forward to returning here in the future.
