AMPONTOONS.COM, JAYAPURA – Benyamin Sembiring, one of three victims stabbed by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Okbab District, Gunung Bintang Regency, Papua Mountains Province, was transferred to TNI AD TK II Marthen Indey Jayapura Hospital.

Benyamin Sembiring was referred on Saturday (13/5/2023) to receive further medical treatment.

The victim was flown to an Elang Nusantara Air PK-ELM aircraft piloted by Captain Judha A at 08:30 WIT and landed at Oksibil Airport’s Old Apron.

“At 08:48 WIT, the victim was loaded into an ambulance belonging to Gunung Bintang Hospital, and moved to the old apron of Oksibil Airport then proceeded to Sentani Airport, Jayapura Regency,” said the public relations chief of the Papua Regional Police Kombes. Pol Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo.

The whole series of activities finished at 09.10 WIT.

Accompanying the victims in the evacuation were Pabung 1715/Yahukimo Major Arh Soni BS Simanjuntak and Markus Ribo (Nakes).

“We hope this evacuation will help the victims receive adequate medical care,” he concluded.

Timeline of the persecution

Earlier, a number of Telkomsel BTS tower workers were taken hostage by Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Okbab District, Gunung Bintang Regency, Papua Mountains Province on Friday (12/5/2023) at 09:00 WIT.

The hostage-taking began when six Telkomsel BTS Tower workers led by the Chief of Information and Communication Service for Gunung Bintang Regency, Alverus Sanuari, departed from Oksibil for Okbab District using an Eagle Air aircraft at 08:30 WIT.

However, when they arrived at Okbab Airport, they were immediately intercepted by five people claiming to belong to the KKB group.

“The group used sharp weapons, such as machetes, and physically assaulted three workers,” Papua Police public relations chief Kombes Pol Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo said.

“Alverus Sanuari and one of the injured victims named Benyamin Sembiring, have been released to return to Oksibil,” Benny said in Jayapura on Saturday (13/5/2023).

The victim arrived at Oksibil Airport at around 11:00 am WIT and was immediately rushed to Oksibil Hospital for medical treatment.

“However, up to now, there are still four people held hostage by the group. Two of them have suffered injuries as a result of the persecution,” Benny explained.
