AMPONTOONS.COM, JAKARTA – Chicken egg price in Pasar Agung, Depok, West Java is Rp. 32,000 per kilogram (kg). The price of eggs has increased since the end of Idul Fitri 1444 Hijiriah.

Ismail (40), an egg seller at Pasar Agung Depok, said that initially the price of eggs per kilogram was Rp 28,000. However, as Eid al-Adha approaches, the price of eggs has not dropped to its original level.

“The price of eggs went up after the holiday (Eid al-Fitr),” Ismail said as he served customers on Sunday (5/21/2023).

“From (price) Rp. 28,000, it keeps increasing by Rp. 30,000, Rp. 33,000 is now Rp. 32,000,” he continued.

Ismail admitted that the increase in the price of eggs, which is still between Rp. 32,000 and Rp. 34,000, depends on the traders who get the eggs from the farmers.

Because he said, there is a price difference if traders buy eggs in large quantities.

“Depending on the collection, if a small agent collects 1 case of 2 cases, he will automatically sell Rp. 33,000 to Rp. 34,000,” he said.

“Per ton, the difference is Rp. 500. If we take it per ton, it’s cheaper. That’s why we take some, as long as it runs out,” he explained.

Even as the price of eggs has risen, Ismail said there have been no significant protests from housewife-dominated buyers.

“Yes, of course there are (those protesting the high price of eggs). Grocery shopping is expensive, selling is expensive,” he said.

On the other hand, an egg buyer named Asti (48) admits that he has no problem if the price of eggs rises even to IDR 32,000 per kilogram. Furthermore, Asti said, he only buys eggs for home consumption.

“For me it’s normal, maybe for some people,” said Asti choosing a chicken egg.
