Way Sekampung Dam Tour – For me Bandar Lampung is second home after Serpong. Especially when paired with a picnic to enjoy its natural charm and culinary delights, Lampung will never go out of style for these two things.
Besides Lampung province, it is also the shortest distance from Serpong if you want to enjoy exotic beaches, pristine beaches, fine white powder sand beaches, coral beaches with powerful waves. So if your pockets are hostile but your soul struggles to travel, Lampung will always emerge victorious.
Way Sekampung Dam, the new tourist destination in Springsewu, East Lampung
So last month my husband and I went back to Bandar Lampung. Actually the main focus is not for picnics but for business and family matters. But claiming to be a travel blogger, it is a loss if you don’t plan time to picnic, explore tourist destinations and enjoy the culinary delights. Wherever I go, the theme won’t be far from it.
So, we went for a picnic at Way Sekampung Dam thanks to stories from relatives there a few months earlier. It is said that there is a new tourist destination in Pringsewu, namely Way Sekampung Dam.
About this dam
Way Sekampung Dam is located in Pringsewu Regency, Lampung Province. Part of the Way Sekampung Irrigation System which uses water from the Way Sekampung River as its water source. Built in 2016, completed in 2019 and inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on September 21, 2021.
Costing about IDR 1.78 billion, the Way Sekampung Dam is about 1.3 kilometers long and about 38 meters high. Equipped with 6 water control ports. Photos with drones from above, the panorama is very beautiful.
Then, when the water in the dam has overflowed, the water will flow into the safety channel (overflow) in the center of the dam and then flow into the Way Sekampung River.
As a tourist place
As the saying goes, once you row you pass 2-3 islands. This principle appears to have been applied by the regional government of Pringsewu Regency to increase regional income. But according to the story, this dam was not handed over by the central government to the Lampung regional government. So this proverb can only apply to the surrounding community by collecting entrance fees, selling services, and setting up food stalls at tourist sites.
Yes, besides being a hydroelectric power station, the function of Way Sekampung Dam is now the new destination of Lampung. This is possible because the water in the dam is very clear with a turquoise colour. From the top of the hill, our eyes are pampered with the view of the expanse of hills which still looks beautiful.
Way Sekampung Dam tourist attractions
As this is a new tourist destination, there are not many supporting facilities for tourists. The only way in, at one point deviating from the main road, is through the village. This is an alternative route because the official road to the dam is still closed. The road can only pass one car, through the cocoa, coffee and banana plantations belonging to the community.
So, apart from enjoying the natural scenery, the Sekampung Way tour still has no other attractions. At most it could be like this:
- Enjoy the typical cuisine of Lampung. Around Way Sekampung Dam are stalls selling food and drinks. But well not much. And don’t expect to get typical Lampung food delights like pindang simba (fish head) 🙂 But just fried chicken, grilled fish, indomie and young coconut ice.
- Trekking: If you are tired of staying in one place, you can walk along the paths for a bit edge of the dam. Enjoy the fresh air with a panoramic view directly in the middle of the dam.
- On a boat: The community provides wooden boats for hire. Visiting the dam while enjoying the charm of the turquoise water is an interesting alternative. But be careful, don’t get too close to the dam’s water ring, you’re afraid of being sucked into the current.
