AMPONTOONS.COM, JAKARTA – Information and Public Communications Director-General of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) Usman Kansong said there were four first-ranking officials whose positions would be replaced.
Usman explained that I echelon officials would fill the previously vacant positions.
The vacancy, he said, was because previous officials had retired or had not yet been filled.
“I don’t have names. They are filling positions that have been vacant for a long time, either due to retirement or not being filled,” Usman said, when contacted on Monday (22/5/2023).
Usman explained that the four positions are General Manager of Post and Information Technology, General Inspectorate and two Expert Staff.
Separately, Plt Menkominfo Mahfud MD said there would be a change in a number of top-level officials in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Kominfo).
Mahfud said the replacement of a number of Kominfo officials had not been carried out after the alleged corruption case ensnared Communications and Information Technology Minister Johnny G Plate.
However, he explained, the replacement was made by Communications and Information Technology Minister Johnny G Plate. Meanwhile, Mahfud was only tasked with carrying on and ushering in.
“This replacement for Echelon I, I just have to continue, that he replaced Mr. Plate, not because of this incident and then he was replaced,” Mahfud said in a news conference at Kominfo office, Central Jakarta on Monday (22/5/2023).
Clearly, the names of the 1st-ranking officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to be replaced had been suggested for some time.
In addition, for his inauguration, Mahfud said, he will install the first-ranking officials for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Tuesday tomorrow.
“It was proposed long before this, and I just have to open it tomorrow. At 11 or 12,” he continued.
Earlier, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had chosen Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD to replace Minister of Communications and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G Plate.

“(The one in charge of replacing Johnny G Plate is) Acting Menkopolhukam,” Jokowi said as quoted by YouTube Tribunnews.

It is known that Mahfud Md was chosen as Plt Menkominfo because Johnny G Plate was officially named a suspect in the BTS 4G tower construction corruption case.
Regarding the handling of the case, Jokowi believes that the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) is open and professional.
“We have to respect the existing legal process, what is clear is that the attorney general’s office is very professional and open to this case,” Jokowi said.
