AMPONTOONS.COM, JAKARTA – The Election Monitoring Body of the Republic of Indonesia (Bawaslu) responded regarding several parties which were accepted by the District/City level General Election Commission (KPU) at 23:55.
This is related to the registration of potential legislative candidates (bacaleg) to advance in the upcoming 2024 election.
RI Bawaslu President Rahmat Bagja said delays in accepting some parts would affect the vetting process.
He explained that later this delay would affect the verification process which would also be hampered.
“The effect will be that later during the verification process it will also be hampered. It will be later,” Rahmat said, when meeting at the Indonesian office of KPU, Central Jakarta on Sunday (14/5/2023).
Rahmat hopes the verification process isn’t too difficult.
“The effect will be that later the verification process will also be hindered. It will be later. Yes, I hope the verification is not too heavy,” he said.
Furthermore, Rahmat said, there would be no recovery time or additional time granted by the KPU if political parties were late in submitting documents for the registration of legislative candidates.
“Yes, not really. There is a time limit. If the injury time is 1 minute before 23:58, it is injury time,” said Rahmat Bagja.
Earlier, the Republic of Indonesia’s election supervision body (Bawaslu) said that several political parties were accepted by the district/city-level General Election Commission (KPU) at 23:55.

RI Bawaslu President Rahmat Bagja said the report came from the Bawaslu Monitoring Group at the KPU at the city-regency level.
“Right now, reports from our district/city monitoring team are still pending. There are several parties accepted in the city districts at 11.50pm, some at 11.51pm and 11.55pm,” Bagja said, at a press conference. at the Indonesian office of the KPU. , Central Jakarta, Sunday (14/5/2023).
Related to this, Rahmat said, later there will be a verification process to be carried out by the Indonesian KPU.
“So today will finish at 10.45pm if I’m not mistaken. So let’s hope that in the future there will be a verification process done by the KPU,” he said.
Therefore, Rahmat stressed, Bawaslu will continue to monitor the process done by the KPU.
“Bawaslu will immediately oversee the process done by KPU colleagues,” he said.
