AMPONTOONS.COM, JAKARTA – Indonesian long distance runner, Agus Prayogo, won a gold medal at the 2023 SEA Games Cambodia.
Agus Prayogo won the gold medal after being fastest in the men’s marathon which took place in Angkor Wat, Siem Riep on Saturday (6/5/2023).
The TNI AD officer recorded a time of 2 hours 32 minutes 59 seconds. This result also improved Agus’ score at the previous SEA Games, where he only settled for a silver medal.
Behind these achievements, Agus actually admitted that the SEA Games in Cambodia were the toughest SEA Games for him.
This is because he has to race in extreme weather conditions. How could it not be, in addition to conquering distances, Agus also had to contend with the heat that reached 40 degrees Celsius.
“In my opinion, this is the toughest SEA Games for me, because I ran in 40 degrees for the marathon,” said Agus Prayogo.
Agus also revealed that many top runners from other countries failed to finish the match.
Fortunately, continues Agus, the committee provides for a water station every 2 kilometers.
“Luckily the committee provides water stations for 2km, which is usually standard for 5km,” said Agus.
“Many of the top athletes from other countries have DNF (they’re not finished), because my last ranking was in the top three, so the seed is ranked 1st and 2nd in DNF, because the weather is quite extreme,” he explained .
Furthermore, Agus presented the gold medal won to his second son who had just turned his birthday.
“What is certain is that I dedicate this medal to my second son, who had his birthday yesterday when I competed, so I haven’t met him yet, I dedicate it to him,” said Agus.
