Hong Kong is once again flapping its wings in the tourism sector with the big decision taken to release the Covid-19 restriction rules by reopening foreign tourists. Hong Kong’s next step The Tourism Board is creating a “Hello Hong Kong” campaign which was launched on February 2, 2023 by distributing 500,000 free airline tickets to Asian market countries.
A HK$100 million fund has been set up by the Hong Kong Tourism Board as a pledge to bring in more foreign tourists. Reporting from CNBC International, the free tickets that were handed out were part of Hong Kong’s $2 billion aid package ($255 million). which the government awarded to airlines in 2020 at the start of the pandemic.

Hong Kong Airport Authority (AAHK) CEO Fred Lam said that these free tickets will be used by airlines based in Hong Kong, there are three airlines: Cathay Pacific, HK Express and Hong Kong Airlines.
These free tickets will be distributed in three phases over six months from March 1 to September 2023.
Around 160,000 airline tickets will also be distributed to Hong Kong residents from July 2023.
The three airlines have not released details on how to get the free tickets, but Cathay Pacific’s website says it will start issuing round-trip tickets to Hong Kong from March 1. People can join Cathay’s membership program to receive reminders to participate in the Worldwide Winners Ticketing Campaign.

Not just ticket sharing, there are other rewards
From 2 February 2023, Hong Kong will give away sets of HK Goodies worth over HK$100 each, including a free welcome drink at participating bars, restaurants and hotels, or cash vouchers to redeem at transport, restaurants and shops, as well as attractions.

However, please note that all international tourists must still have a negative Covid-19 test result prior to departure. Then there are the mandatory rules for the use of masks on public transport and in public places, both indoors and outdoors.
