With an area of 2,670 hectares, Rawa Pening spreads across 4 sub-districts in Semarang regency. Covering Ambarawa, Bawen, Tuntang and Banyubiru districts. Derived from the word “wening” which means quiet, calm, peaceful. Rawa Pening village is surrounded by Merbabu Mountain, Telomulyo Mountain and Ungaran Mountain. No wonder the natural lake that sits above it is a nice stopover if a traveler stops in Semarang. An interesting point is the Floating Resto in Kampung Rawa Pening Ambarawa. Besides enjoying the beautiful scenery, we can also enjoy the village food menu at the floating restaurant.
This visit to Kampung Rawa Ambarawa is my second time. The first was in 2013 when our eldest son had a coas in a hospital in Semarang. The arrival here has been triggered by many picnic stories, both from blogs, portals and Instagram. Because Rawa Pening is so large, the community has set up many tourist spots, so we have more freedom to choose. Depends how close you are to that place.
Entrance ticket prices and how to go to Swamp Village Tourism
The road to the Kampoeng Rawa tourist area is relatively easy. We started from Wujil Hotel (story of staying here will follow). Then take the Semarang-Solo toll road, enter Bawen-Ambarawa. Not far from Bawen Terminal, turn right onto Jalan Jenderal M. Sarbini. The road is wide, well paved. It faltered just a bit near Bawen City, then it was smooth sailing.
Soon we’ll come to a highway overlooking rice fields, with low-lying expanses opening up to the mountains in the distance. Enter the special road through the gate with Wisa Kampung Rawa written on it. So there is already a payment counter to enter the Kampung Rawa Ambarawa resort town.
At that time, the latest ticket price, precisely at the end of December 2021, was Rp. 5,000 per person. But if friends read other people’s posts, the ticket price is Rp. 3,000 per person.

Is Kampoeng Rawa tourism open or closed? And what are you doing there?
According to reports circulating on social media, the resort town of Kampoeng Rawa has been shut down for infringing on land use. This area of the green belt should not be commercialized.
Luckily when we headed here from Ungaran we didn’t know about the closure of this tourist place. So thank goodness when I went there in Dec 2021 it was open. But when I arrived, I was a bit confused what to do there?
It’s a beautiful place, fresh air. Saung available for fishing. But for photos with a view of Rawa Pening as a backdrop, the place is a bit stuffy. So if you want to enjoy the full panorama of the lake, rent a boat. With that, friends can feel the atmosphere of Kampung Rawa Ambarawa of Rawa Pening.

I rest Kampoeng Rawa Ambarawa in Rawa Pening
The main attraction in one of the tourist spots in Rawa Pening village is a floating restaurant with a unique concept. Satisfied that you have done the rounds of Rawa Pening, head towards the Rawa Pening restaurant house which is located to the right of the parking lot. What makes this place unique is the way into the restaurant location. We will be transported using getek, a kind of houseboat that floats on 4 drums. This boat is controlled by 2 people. One person is shooting from the side and another is in the boat.
Not much, just about 2 minutes. But funny enough. Especially if you come here with children. They will love it.

Floating restaurant menu
Adopting the concept of rural food, all menus at Kampoeng Rawa restaurant have Indonesian overtones. Starting with stir-fried, fried, grilled, and soups, it’s an interesting choice. From salty to slightly sweet. From spicy to not using chilli at all. From fish, chicken, beef to seafood. Not to forget various vegetables such as gado-gado and other green vegetables.
