The Pari Sudha: Elevating the Family Charm of Bali

Posted on

Pari Sudha is a boutique accommodation in the village of Petulu, just north of the city of Ubud, which exudes the nostalgia and rhythm of Bali’s yesteryears.

In the early days of Bali’s thriving tourist scene, travelers found refuge in a local family compound, a homestay. Here, between their journeys to what was then mainly forest, farmland and deserted beaches, they would make themselves at home by their resident hosts. A connection is made, a personal, friendship and family connection. Saying ‘When in Bali, do as the Balinese do’, surely would have applied back then.

Of course, times change, scenes change and tastes change. While families have their role to play, they now compete with the comfort and convenience of new, modern destinations. Bridging the gap is The Pari Sudha, a unique accommodation that has found a way to revamp the concept of homestay accommodation to meet the needs and tastes of today’s guests whilst retaining a classic Bali family style charm.

Only in Petulu 5 minutes drive from central Ubud, Pari Sudha welcomes you to his “village”. Upon your arrival, you will pass the houses of local residents and, without boundaries, you will be part of the neighborhood. The “homestay” is located on the edge of the valley, with a perfect view of a thick, lush forest – five star views! There are two large infinity pools and a traditional ‘Joglo Lounge’ made for reading and relaxing, all overlooking this canopy of trees and enjoying the clean fresh air of Ubud.

There are eight bungalows cascading down the valley walls, with thatched roofs and cozy Balinese-style interiors. Four categories are available, including Holy Retreat, which opens into a semi-private lagoon pool; Forest Labyrinth, with private balcony and soaking tub; Access to the swimming pool; and Forest Retreat, a peaceful escape with a large balcony overlooking the jungle. Each room is also equipped with amenities from Sensatia Botanicals.

Adding to the homely atmosphere, the staff at The Pari Sudha are recruited from the local village, this includes expert therapists from their open-air massage pavilion. But above all, at Sandaran, the in-house restaurant, two Balinese mothers lead the kitchen, serving hearty, home-cooked food of great taste and quality.

Welcoming and charming with its community-style approach to accommodation, The Pari Sudha aims to provide comfort in more ways than just services and facilities. Run by a Balinese family, there is an understanding that sometimes guests want a ‘feel’, an atmosphere, that tells them, ‘Yes, this can only be Bali’.
