AMPONTOONS.COM, KUBU RAYA – Acting Party Chairman Kubu Raya Golkar M Iqbal Zafarullah reportedly committed suicide by jumping into Kapuas River, West Kalimantan on Sunday (14/5/2023).
Based on the information gathered, the accident occurred around 10.30 WIB.
M Iqbal Zafarullah initially went to Kubu Raya KPU office to register potential legislative candidates or Bacalegs.
So, he left the KPU office with his wife and rushed to leave the KPU office by car.
At first the car driven by Iqbal headed for home.
But on the way, his wife noticed strange behavior from her husband.
It turned out that Iqbal did not direct the vehicle he was driving towards their home.

Instead, Iqbal took his wife to the banks of the Kapuas River with the intention of attempting suicide.
According to Kubu Raya Police Chief AKBP Arief Hidayat, the incident occurred after the legislative candidate registration process had been carried out in Kubu Raya.
“Today, after we went through the registration process for legislative candidates in Kubu Raya Regency, we received information that one of the party officials who was acting party chairman Kubu Raya Golkar had attempted suicide,” he said.
He explained that at that time the victim was known to be leaving the registration process at the KPU Kubu Raya office and heading towards Kuala Dua village.

“Then information was obtained from the victim’s wife that the affected person was found to be heading to Kuala Dua village to attempt suicide,” he said.
The motive for Iqbal’s suicide attempt is not yet known.
“We are currently investigating the motive,” the police chief said.
