In this article I will share my experience visiting Cangke Island, the way and cost to visit this tourist spot from Makassar and the love story between the two people of this island.
Indeed, Indonesia is known as a large archipelagic country with marine biodiversity.
Thousands of islands with hidden treasures.
It doesn’t matter gold, gems or other precious minerals.
The real treasure lies under the sea which must be protected for future generations.
Cangke Island is an island located in Spermonde Islands, in the western part of the city of Makassar.
On this island I had an unforgettable precious experience.
The love story of Daeng Abu and Ibu Maidah
Fifty years ago, Pulau Cangke was just a small uninhabited island.
Until one day a man named Dan Abu he discovered this island to exile himself
Daeng Abu suffers from leprosy which can be contagious.
He was not accepted by the local community, so he had to leave his home island.
There is only one person loyal to Daeng Abu, regardless of his condition.
Mother MaidaDaeng Abu’s wife lives together on this remote island and takes care of Daeng Abu.
Slowly, Daeng Abu built everything from scratch.
He planted trees, built docks and even small huts.

It’s hard to believe in a miracle or true love.
How can Daeng Abu, a leper, still be able to live his life even now, especially on a remote island?
The life story of Daeng Abu and Ibu Maidah has become an inspiration to many people.
Now more and more visitors come to meet these humble husband and wife.
Daeng Abu also received an award for protecting the sustainability of Cangke Island.

How to get to Cangke Island from Makassar
To go to Cangke Island, you can rent a boat from Porto Paotere or the Bangkoa lumber port in Makassar.
Travel time to Pulau Cangke is approximately 2.5 hours.
The price of the boat is IDR 1,000,000 round trip including accommodation.
This fishing boat can accommodate up to 30 people. It is better to find friends or a group if the price is also lower.
So if you go together then the cost to Cangke island is only IDR 50,000-IDR 100,000 per person.
But yeah, you have to bring your own food again.
On this island there are several small huts where you can sleep. You can also bring a tent or sleeping bag.
The beauty of the coral reef on Cangke Island
The activity that must be done when visiting Cangke Island is of course snorkeling.
Similar to other small islands in the Spermonde archipelago, Cangke Island has white sand beaches.
I’m basically happy to see coral reefs and underwater beauty.
The reason I really want to go to Cangke Island is because of my friends freediver Did I say that the seats here are the best in the Spermonde Islands.
When I arrived, I installed immediately snorkel mask and frog legs getting ready to explore.
My friend is not lying.
The best part is on the left side of the pier to the east. On the right side of the dock there are many table corals or table coral everywhere.

Visibilityit’s also good. Most hard coralbut in some areas there are also soft coral Also.
The current is quite normal, not too strong.
In certain parts I feel cold currents meeting warm currents.
The distance between the surface and the reefs at high tide is about 2 meters.
But if it’s moving away, the distance is close enough.
Don’t worry about the coral when snorkelling, watch out for the sea urchins.
My personal snorkeling experience on this island is amazing.
Besides seeing various beautiful coral reefs, I also saw the most beautiful rainbow I’ve ever seen in my life.

The sunset is also beautiful, although it is a little cloudy, but the golden color is clear.
In the evening my friends and I spend time on the pier.
The full moon shines with bright, twinkling stars. The breeze, the calm sound of the sea and the accompaniment of songs and songs.
I am really grateful to be able to enjoy a peaceful life and be surrounded by the beauty of nature.
